Food and Professional Service Firm Choice
Posted on October 19, 2010 at 10:25 am
Have you ever walked into the grocery store and picked a yellow apple instead of a green one? What makes the hamburger on that billboard ad look so juicy? Or that big red tomato on a package so appealing?
Aesthetics affect our daily choices more than we probably think about, and we usually find ourselves making split decisions based on the way something looks. Interestingly enough the same goes for professional service firm consideration, especially on the web. Another recent GB blog post cited a study done last year in Ottawa and then again in London, people make decisions about the quality and likeability of your website in 1/20th of a second and carry that impression with them throughout their entire visit to your site.
So, as a designer, I always remind myself, with some reminders from my boss, that the images and colors that I choose have a direct affect on marketplace choices; I can actually create feelings of hunger, desire and trust.
Is this something you think about when you consider the color palette, font or images used in your marketing? Are you setting yourself apart? Or turning people away?
