How to Recognize Great Work?
Posted on October 28, 2010 at 9:16 am

This post isn’t just for clients. It’s for designers, account executives and the entire team. How do you know when you design something wonderful or see something great? Me, I sometimes feel a tone like a tone from a tuning fork. Sometimes, I hear a snap, as in crackle and pop. Sometimes I don’t hear anything because an “Oh!” has burst through my lips. Sometimes I bounce off my seat just a bit. Always, my face is covered in a smile. I feel pleased with myself to a fault. I’ve broken through. I’ve created not just something that’s good but something that’s delightful, smart, engaging and, if only for a moment, supremely satisfying.
If none of this happens, you the designer haven’t done your job. Keep plugging. You, the client, want a similar, although reflected, thrill.
