Site of the Week: Teach Parents Tech
Posted on January 11, 2011 at 12:03 pm
Website: TeachParentsTech.org
Lessons to be Learned:
Quite possibly the only thing more irritating than nails on a chalkboard is attempting to explain a tech problem. Welcome to TeachParentsTech.org. This site, developed by your friendly, and probably sympathetic, staffers at Google, provides simple “how to” guides that you can send to friends, family, and co-workers. The fun appeal of the site is the simple “form”, modeled after the now archaic “While You Were Out” message pad. Users simply choose the recipient, a category (including the basics, world wide web, etc.) and the task requiring instruction. The form walks users through each step, resulting in a video tutorial sent via email to computer-challenged friend. While this site provides practical benefits to some parents, consider using this idea to create user-friendly, visually-appealing forms for your Help section or Information Request page. Wouldn’t it be nice if your Help section reduced phone calls about commonly-asked questions? Just as nice, what if requests were streamlined and client satisfaction increased?
