The Importance of SEO
Posted on June 2, 2011 at 11:39 am
Our firm hosted a day-long SEO training session last week in our DC office given by Max Thomas, the straight-talking CEO of our SEO partner, ThunderSEO.
Much to reflect on and report from that highly informational and provocative session about the state-of-the-art and science of SEO, but here are some of the facts that pried my eyes wide open:
- Worldwide, we conduct 88 billion searches per month on Google. That’s 34,000 per second, 2 million per minute, 121 million per hour and 3 billion per day.
- 57% of Internet users search the web every day and 47% of daily searches are for products and services. And yes, our own research shows that those searchers included executive level buyers of professional searches.
- When search results are returned, the organic search returns are clicked on 90% of the time.
- When searchers click through those results, the top three listed returns earn 62.5% average percentage clicks and the top 10 earn 89.9%.
I’m not an SEO expert and share some generational skepticism of the “field,” but these numbers make a compelling case for the importance of a high performing SEO program as part of a healthy integrated marketing mix – online and off. Don’t you think?
