Flipboard was named Apple’s iPad App of the Year for 2010. The icing on the cake is that this past week, it was finally added to the iPhone app store, which is why we’ve selected it as our App of the Week.

Flipboard’s intuitive design elements make its addition to the iPhone standout. It comes with built-in RSS feeds for design, sports, tech, etc., and displays them magazine-style. The process of flipping from page to page is fluid, the photographs and graphics are breathtaking and really needs to be experienced.

Users can add their favorite RSS feeds from around the web by searching for them inside Flipboard. If the feed isn’t already in Flipboard’s list, the user can simply retrieve it from the selected feed’s website and add it to Flipboard. RSS feeds are just the start. The user can also enter their Facebook or Twitter logins to see their respective social media pages in a magazine layout as well. Grabbing pictures from posts and displaying them full screen with animated captions is a brilliant concept. With Flipboard, your plain old Facebook wall becomes a thing of beauty. And all of your features are still there: you can retweet, share, comment, like, etc., just as you always did. It just looks so much better inside Flipboard.

All the screenshots in the world could not do this app justice. While we love the experience of Flipboard on the iPhone, the scale and visual ease of the app on the iPad remains unparalleled. For those of us wondering why Flipboard was never before accessible on smaller devices, we can celebrate its arrival. What I consider the quintessential iPad app is finally here and we can all see our content the way it was meant to be viewed.
