The Free Font Follies

Clients often ask us why we don’t give them fonts that are recommended in our on and offline designs. For understandable reasons, they often see typography as a given (or freebie). We hear: “I have a slew of fonts preloaded on my computer, they are just letters.” But fonts need to be viewed like art or photography; fonts are licensed and can not be given away. Here is a great article that goes over the basics of font licensing. Beyond grasping these basics, when you work with your designer, be sure to factor in and budget for the added cost of fonts you don’t currently have a license to use.Write a comment
