Site of the Week: Quirky.com
Posted on August 13, 2012 at 4:19 pm
Quirky.com is about the power of social collaboration. It creates products and services through a collective effort: testers, critics and designers work together on the site to make products that are eventually bought by major retailers like Toys R Us and Bed Bath & Beyond. The site provides an inside look into product development and allows participants to see this new business model in action; an online idea engine with a 24-hour workforce of contributors who know they don’t get paid unless everyone gets paid.
Think about getting input on your product development process from sources you haven’t thought of before. An entire army is standing by to help make your product successful, but are you brave enough to use it? Companies that have embraced online community engagement have achieved some amazing results. For example, Adobe’s active learning community uses public forums to improve its products. I’m sure you can imagine how successful products built with consumer input could be.
Some companies like Comcast, WMATA and UPS, have an open door policy that actively monitors and encourages feedback. So far, companies that are listening and responding to their customers are improving their reputation. Those who don’t embrace this type of engagement will be left behind.
