Char came to Greenfield/Belser 10 years ago with 20 years of experience in accounting and business management. She spent most of those years helping her TK brothers run a blueprinting business. They started with six employees. When they sold the company 15 years later, it had grown to 65 employees working out of 3 locations. The experience provided great training in learning how companies should be run, how to hire the right people and keep them happy and, most of all, how to learn from your mistakes.

With entrepreneurialism and family business in her blood, Char was the perfect fit for Greenfield/Belser. As Greenfield/Belser’s CFO, she directs all of the financial affairs of the company, from billing to ensuring that long-term strategy and goals are implemented. In doing so, Char not only serves the firm’s clients, but all of the employees at Greenfield/Belser who need help developing estimates and managing client budgets and jobs. Char also wears the hat of Human Resources Director. In that role, Char helps direct Greenfield/Belser’s recruiting efforts and HR policies, such as compensation and benefits. In this regard, Char personifies “Left Brain/Right Brain.” Unlike many accountants who prefer to crunch numbers and leave all that “people stuff” to someone else, Char relishes her HR role. The reason is simple: Making Greenfield/Belser a wonderful place to work is about far more than just making sure the bottom line is what it should be. Equally important, Greenfield/Belser’s success in many ways depends on the fact that the company is committed to ensuring that everyone enjoys their work and their colleagues, learns and grows and, in the end, is happy to come to the office every day.

BORN:

On Leap Year in a small Minnesota town in the dead of winter many, many years ago.

I GREW UP IN:

Iowa farm country, and moved to the D.C. area when I was a junior in high school. (I’m still suffering from the culture shock!)

EDUCATION:

30 years of experience and a B.A. in Accounting; CPA

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:

G-woman, The Federal Reserve Board; Surrey & Morse, attorneys; 15 years helping my brothers run their company, Topel Digital Imaging; Greenfield/Belser Ltd.

WHEN I'M NOT WORKING, I PARTICULARLY ENJOY:

Doing anything with my kids, reading, going to movies, hiking, African drumming (particularly with my son Kyle), and, when I can get away, heading to the beach.
